Martin P Hughes served as HUB International chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer from December 1999 to January 2018. He currently holds the position of executive chairman of the board of directors. He joined Mack and Parker Inc. in 1973 (now a part of HUB International Midwest Ltd), where he served as president from 1990 to 1999, and as chairman from 1999 to 2001. Hughes has over 40 years of experience in the insurance brokerage industry and was named the recipient of the 2019 Crain Lifetime Achievement award for outstanding accomplishments in the insurance and risk management sector. He was elected chairman of the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers in 2018. He previously served as the organisation’s vice chairman. Hughes also served as chairman of Assurex International, a worldwide insurance service organisation. The executive chairman earned his degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and currently sits as a board member for Mount Carmel High School. In addition, Hughes is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, and the Executives' Club of Chicago.
