Aviva Canada is expanding its Charged for Change program to increase access to electric vehicle (EV) public charging stations nationwide.
The program, a joint initiative with Earth Day Canada, will provide another $1 million in funding for Level 2 EV chargers in underserved communities.
A news release from the insurer said the first year of the program delivered new charging stations to seven communities in Ontario, including the Town of Pelham, the Township of Selwyn, the County of Prince Edward, the Town of Thessalon, East Ferris, the Township of Manitouwadge, and Township of Essa.
Some of these communities established their very first public EV chargers through funding they received from the program.
Coming from this success, Aviva Canada has announced that nominations for the 2024 program will be open until February 22.
“We look forward to expanding our program’s reach across Canada to make a difference for people who own EVs or are considering switching to an EV and who live in communities without adequate charging infrastructure,” said chief distribution officer Ben Isotta-Riches.
The Charged for Change program is a $3 million partnership between Aviva Canada and Earth Day Canada. It had its inaugural year in 2023 and will run for three years, providing $1 million in funding each year.
“Urgent action is needed to counter climate change. Charged for Change provides tangible solutions for Canadians, especially those who live in smaller communities who are looking to make the transition to EV but are deterred by the lack of public infrastructure and resources available,” said Valérie Mallamo, executive director of Earth Day Canada.
