Empire Life Investments Inc., the investment arm of Empire Life Insurance Company, has announced the appointment of Ian Fung as portfolio manager for fixed income.

Fung boasts more than a decade of experience in the investment industry, holding progressive roles at several Canadian independent wealth management firms. In his most recent roles, he focused on managing North American credit portfolios and was responsible for trading securities as an active member of his former firm’s investment committee.

In his new position, Fung will take on management duties of the Empire Life Bond and the fixed income portion of the Empire Life Emblem portfolios. Geoff Johnston, senior portfolio manager for fixed income, will continue to provide consultation on the management of the funds, but will transition to taking on a greater role in the management of fixed income investments for the company’s general fund, which supports its annuity and insurance products.

“We’re very excited to have Ian join our fixed income team,” said Patrick McGrath, vice president of fixed income and private placements at Empire Life Investments. “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge in this space and a management style that aligns well with our disciplined investment approach.”
