Insurance Business has published its 2026 5-Star Construction special report, recognizing insurers that received strong ratings from brokers for their performance in Canada’s construction insurance market.
The annual report identifies insurers that brokers said delivered consistent performance across underwriting, product offerings, pricing, responsiveness, and service for construction-related risks. According to Insurance Business Canada (IBC), the recognition is based on a national research process involving broker nominations, insurer submissions, and an evaluation of quantitative and qualitative data.
IBC said it began the selection process by inviting brokers across Canada to nominate insurers they had worked with in the construction sector. Insurers receiving a sufficient number of nominations were then invited to participate in the next stage of the research by submitting detailed information about their construction insurance capabilities. The submissions covered areas including underwriting expertise, risk appetite, construction-specific insurance products, responsiveness to brokers, pricing competitiveness, and service standards.
Its research team reviewed both broker survey responses and the supporting information provided by participating insurers. According to the publication, final results were determined primarily by broker ratings across key performance indicators relevant to construction insurance. The assessment also considered consistency of service, as well as the level of support insurers provide to brokers and construction clients.
Organizations receiving the 5-Star Construction designation demonstrated strong broker ratings while showing performance across underwriting, product offerings, and service delivery within the construction insurance market.
