Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), which is part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has announced the appointment of two underwriters to its casualty team. Both underwriters will take up their roles with immediate effect.

Jonathan Powell is joining as senior underwriter for the US book of business, reporting to Phil Stephenson, senior underwriter, excess casualty. Powell has worked in the London insurance market for over 12 years, operating in both the Lloyd’s and company market and comes to LSM from Aspen, where he was senior casualty underwriter.

Meanwhile, David Bramall (pictured) is joining as underwriting manager for the UK book of business, reporting to Dan Munro, liability underwriting manager. Bramall, who was previously the lead underwriter for UK casualty at MS Amlin, has over 22 years’ experience in the London and regional UK market and was formerly responsible for leading the Marsh National Corporate and RMP casualty broking teams.

Commenting on this news, Stuart Sutherland, head of liability lines at LSM, said that Bramall and Powell have been appointed due to their experience in managing existing portfolios and identifying new opportunities.

“They have developed excellent relationships with their brokers over the years,” Sutherland said. “We welcome them both to our team as we work with our broker partners to support clients through these challenging times.”
