Promutuel Insurance has pledged $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Appeal to support emergency relief efforts after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco earlier this month.

The earthquake, which primarily affected Marrakesh and Safi, caused widespread destruction and left thousands needing immediate assistance. Officials have reported a death toll of at least 2,946, according to Reuters. More than 5,000 individuals have also been injured.

In response to the tragedy, Groupe Promutuel, represented by its 16 mutual associations and federation, has committed to supporting relief efforts in the hardest hit areas.

“Mutual values take on their full meaning in the face of adversity,” Groupe Promutuel CEO Geneviève Fortier said in a press release. “In a gesture of hope, Promutuel Insurance is drawing once again on its values of cooperation, solidarity, and mutual assistance to bring relief and comfort to the victims.”

In addition to its financial donation, Promutuel Insurance also urged its employees and the general public to contribute to the Canadian Red Cross Appeal.

Donations can be made online at www.redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111, the company said in its release.

Promutuel Insurance is one of the largest damage insurers in Quebec, with 2,100 employees serving over 634,000 insured members. It joined the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation in 2022.
