RAISE Underwriting has appointed Stephen Myrer as vice president, surety – Atlantic Canada.

In this new role, Myrer will spearhead RAISE’s surety practice in the Atlantic provinces by overseeing its existing and growing portfolio in the region, as well as fostering new relationships and solutions for brokers. He will also provide national technical underwriting support and mentorship.

Myrer has more than three decades of surety experience. Prior to joining RAISE, he served as an assistant vice president for a national surety writer, where he established the Atlantic Canada surety office and oversaw its growth. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University at Halifax, Nova Scotia, and has received the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and Fellow, Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Stephen and his passion for the surety business to RAISE,” said Iqbal Bhinder, senior vice president, surety of RAISE. “We look forward to Stephen’s contributions and expertise as we endeavour to solve problems for our broker partners.”

“I’m excited for this opportunity and contributing to the entrepreneurial culture that RAISE has embraced,” added Myrer. “I’m looking forward to working with the talented team at RAISE and reconnecting with the many broker partners in Atlantic Canada with whom I have had the privilege of supporting over the years.”

Last October, RAISE named Ken Lam as head of construction, P&C insurance. He joined RAISE from Berkley Canada, where he previously served as vice president of national construction.

RAISE Underwriting is an independent managing general agent and provider of risk insurance and surety products. Distinguishing itself in the market, RAISE is the sole MGA in Canada to offer comprehensive construction and real estate coverages for both construction and surety sectors.
