Revealed – the Canadian insurance industry's rising stars

Insurance News

By Roxanne Libatique

Insurance Business has unveiled Canada’s Rising Stars for 2023, young insurance professionals who are steering the Canadian insurance industry toward a dynamic future through their grit and determination to drive change and set new standards of excellence.

Insurance Business Canada (IBC) identified this year’s Rising Stars by inviting insurance professionals across the country to nominate their most exceptional young talent. Nominees had to be aged 35 or under as of September 1, 2023, and be committed to a career in insurance with a clear passion for the industry. To focus on new talent, IBC only considered nominees who had not previously been named a Rising Star (or Young Gun).

The IBC team asked the nominees about their current role, key achievements, career goals, and the contributions they have made to shaping the insurance industry. It also considered recommendations from managers and senior industry professionals.

Panel of judges

The top 50 Rising Stars were determined by an independent panel of insurance industry leaders composed of:

  • Dionne Bowers, vice chair of the Canadian Association of Black Insurance Professionals and owner of DB Solutions;
  • Jody Lohr, director of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada and vice president of operations at Excel & Y Insurance Services;
  • Joseph Carnevale, president of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario and vice president of sales at Gallagher; and
  • Tisha Hamid, vice president of Young Insurance Professionals of Toronto and client service manager of surety at BFL Canada.
