RIMS reported that its latest conference in Canada managed to attract more than 1,300 risk professionals.

The RIMS Canada Conference was held from September 11 to 14 in Halifax. The event was an opportunity for the industry to explore the latest strategies, best practices, and solutions to strengthen organizations’ risk management capabilities.

Nearly 40 educational sessions and an exhibit hall featuring more than 60 solution providers were the highlights of the event. Although there was a heavy focus on ESG and evolving cyber threats, the event’s educational programs also explored inflation risks, property valuation challenges, merger and acquisition strategies, talent risk, as well as the importance of upskilling to meet new professional expectations.

The conference also featured keynote speakers such as best-selling author and CEO Barb Stegemann, University of Toronto Munk School of Global Affairs founding director Janice Gross Stein, and comedian/actress/writer Kate Davis.

“Over the past two years, organizations have strengthened their risk management capabilities and the demand for professional risk managers has intensified,” said RIMS CEO Gary LaBranche. “RIMS Canada Conference demonstrated that risk professionals find enormous value in face-to-face meetings and are eager to update and upgrade their knowledge of risk trends and issues.”

RIMS Canada had to postpone its conferences for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the impressively large turnout for this year’s conference has been encouraging for the group.

“RIMS and the more than 5,000 holders of the Canadian Risk Manager designation stand ready to provide the strategy, leadership and expertise to continue to make the world a safer, more secure and sustainable place,” LaBranche stated.

RIMS announced in a release that its next in-person conferences are RIMS Legislative Summit 2022 in Washington, DC in late September and RIMS ERM Conference 2022 in Indianapolis in November. More information on these events can be found on RIMS’ website, the group said.
