In an industry where the majority of leadership roles are still dominated by men, a host of women are slowly changing the status quo.

In 2019, Insurance Business Canada recognized 35 ground-breaking women who had overcome obstacles and broken down barriers to become some of the industry’s top professionals – now the search is on again in 2020.

Sharon Ludlow, Toronto-based corporate director and executive in residence at the Global Risk Institute and former president of Aviva Canada and former CEO of Swiss Canada, shared advice for those embarking on a path to leadership in the industry.

“It’s a continuous learning cycle – taking on something new and seeing that you can deliver on it,” she said. “Most successful people gained much more knowledge, and became a smarter and broader thinker, after taking on some of these responsibilities. You have to seize opportunities and succeed at them. It defines your overall success over the years.”

IBC is eager to discover more inspiring women and give them the recognition they deserve by being included in the Elite Women 2020 list.

All are encouraged to nominate women who deserve their place in the spotlight via this online form.

Nominations close Friday, April 03, 2020.

The 2020 Elite Women will be profiled in the June issue of IBC magazine and online.
