The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) has come down on the organization known as J. Cameron Agency, which is not licensed to sell insurance in Ontario. The agency is not registered with the FSCO or with the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario.

J. Cameron Agency, which allegedly issued a false auto insurance liability slip to a consumer, is not affiliated and associated with licensed insurers Aviva Insurance Company or Traders General Insurance Company. The Insurance Bureau of Canada has already been alerted, and Aviva is also conducting its own investigation.

The FSCO warned that consumers should take care when dealing with representatives claiming to be from J. Cameron Agency, Aviva Traders General Insurance, or via the telephone number (416) 689-5221. Customers who purchase items or insurance products from entities that are not licensed to do business in the province are not protected by the Insurance Act and other regulations that cover Ontario’s licensed insurers.

A list of all insurance companies and agents licensed to do business in Ontario is available on FSCO’s website. For a list of all brokers licensed to operate in Ontario, consumers can refer to the website of the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario.
