Wawanesa Mutual Insurance is launching a new product aimed at commercial farming operations.

The new Agricultural Select was designed for large-scale grain, oil seed, and produce operations of more than 2,500 acres. At present, the product is available in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

The specialized insurance provides coverage for:

  • All buildings and structures, along with their business-related contents;
  • Seeds, fertilizers, and chemicals;
  • Livestock if those operations are incidental to grain, oil seed, and product operations;
  • Agricultural equipment

The product also provides commercial comprehensive general liability protection against liability claims for bodily injury and property damage that occurs on and off the business premises or caused by business operations.

Agricultural Select additionally provides coverage for fire department service charges in the event of a fire at the business premises. The coverage applies even if multiple municipalities respond to the incident.

“This new agriculture product reflects our long-standing commitment to the farming community, the roots of our company,” said Wawanesa Canadian P&C operations president Carol Jardine. “Insurance coverage for business should be flexible and we are proud to offer a variety of customizable options that can be added now, or in the future, allowing our commercial farm customers to evolve with us, as their business grows.”
