Insurance Business Canada has recently unveiled its 5-Star Brokerages of 2023, celebrating leaders that have continued to excel in the brokerage space.
One of the winners this year is Billyard Insurance Group (BIG), which ranked third among the top brokerages in the country.
“I say this confidently: we have the best brokers in the industry,” COO Cody Douma told Insurance Business.
“The people that sell for us and have grown their careers with us are exceptional. We commit to a culture that attracts the best talent and provides them with a platform to be successful, and that’s what we hang our hat on every day.”
BIG achieved several milestones that contributed to its recognition as a 5-Star Brokerage. This includes a 58% increase in clients, a 52% rise in revenue, and a 42% expansion in policies.
It has also taken strides to attract insurance talent by prioritizing technology integration.
“If we can deliver on the technology and continue to deliver for the individuals that have joined us, that enables the talent that’s with us to be better at their job,” said Douma.
In doing so, BIG has grown its salesforce to more than 950. It has established a network of 78 locations across Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, with plans to expand into the West.
“We’ve bucked that trend a little bit by creating meaningful partnerships with our people and a clear path to what a successful future looks like together,” Douma said.
“We want to ensure we’re preparing ourselves and aligning the brokerage to be around for the foreseeable future.”
As BIG pushes its growth plans, it has aligned its services to cater to emerging demands by paying close attention to market trends.
“Technology is everything, and over the next two years, you’ll see BIG revolutionizing everything we’re doing on the tech side,” said Douma.
“We want to be the leading tech brokerage in the country, and we’ve already started to develop that plan and process.”
