Mergers & Acquisitions

Westland Insurance has acquired Beneficial Insurance Solutions (BIS), with the transaction taking effect on October 1.

The move is part of Westland’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its footprint in Alberta and broaden its insurance offerings to local communities.

Beneficial Insurance Solutions, headquartered in Calgary, has operated for more than 20 years, providing personal, commercial, life, and benefits insurance. The firm has established relationships within the community and is known for its tailored insurance products and advice.

Through the acquisition, Westland says that BIS clients will have access to a broader range of insurance products and digital services, while maintaining the support of their existing local team.

Jamie Lyons (pictured above), president and CEO of Westland Insurance, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Beneficial Insurance Solutions to the Westland family.”

Lyons noted that BIS’s established presence in Calgary aligns with Westland’s approach. He added that the acquisition enhances Westland’s capacity to deliver client service, risk advisory, and advocacy to more Albertans, particularly as the risk environment becomes more complex.

Westland has continued its strategy of combining national scale with local expertise even outside of Alberta. In August, the company acquired Paul Ayotte Insurance Brokers Ltd. (PAIB), adding five offices in Northern Ontario and expanding its portfolio to include auto, home, business, cottage, and leisure coverage.

PAIB, founded in 1975, is known for its personalised service and strong community ties, which Westland aims to preserve as it grows its presence in Ontario.

In July, Westland also acquired Forefront Insurance, a provider based in Southern Alberta. Forefront focuses on auto, home, farm, ranch, commercial, and recreational vehicle insurance for the Brooks community.

In addition to regional acquisitions, Westland earlier launched Westland Benefits, a new national brand consolidating its acquired specialist firms under one division. The brand, led by newly appointed president Matt Mann, will offer group life and disability insurance, retirement and savings plans, key person coverage, and wellness programs.

Westland Benefits began operating in April, integrating the operations of previously acquired firms such as Dupuis Langen and Montridge Advisory Group.
