It may be four years away, but some 1,500 employees of the nation’s second-largest insurer will soon have a brand-new office to call home.

And it won’t be Toronto, but downtown Markham, Ontario.

Aviva Canada reviewed several options for their new national campus and we are pleased that they chose to build a state-of-the-art office in Downtown Markham,” says Christopher Bratty, president of land development and investments with The Remington Group. “Aviva Canada joins other industry leaders including Worley Parsons, and Motorola in selecting the LEED-certified commercial space offered by Downtown Markham.”

Aviva’s plan to relocate its head office to The Remington Group’s Downtown Markham development will mean Aviva will occupy the majority of a new 12-storey, 350,000 square ft. building by 2017. Aviva Canada headquarters is currently located on Eglinton Avenue East in Toronto.

Insurance Business was the first to break the story of Aviva relocating on February 12.

According to Aviva Canada President and CEO Greg Somerville, they started to take a closer look at Markham while reviewing head office options. (continued.)

“The incredible amenities offered by this new urban centre provide our employees a place to work that is conveniently located to major highways and excellent transit,” says Somerville. “Additionally, the retail offerings, restaurants, art installations and green spaces will all contribute to a terrific environment and an engaged work force.”
