Several insurance and reinsurance firms have announced leadership appointments across underwriting, specialty, operations, and board-level roles.

AEGIS London E&O class underwriter

AEGIS London has promoted Tom Prifti (pictured above, left) to class underwriter for international errors and omissions. He succeeds Martin King, who retired at the end of 2025 after 10 years at AEGIS London and a career that began in 1982 at C.T. Bowring.

Prifti joined AEGIS London in 2014 as a claims adjuster before moving into the E&O underwriting team in 2016. He has experience in face-to-face underwriting at Lloyd's as well as digital trading via AEGIS London's online quote-to-bind platform for Canadian E&O risks.

The E&O team writes a portfolio covering sectors including architects, accountants, engineers, lawyers, IT professionals, insurance professionals, and affinity groups. Prifti was mentored by head of property Toby Sawyer as part of AEGIS London's mentorship programme.

The Exeter non-executive director

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has appointed James Shepherd (pictured above, right) to its board as a non-executive director, effective February 2.

Shepherd concludes a 37-year career at Swiss Re and GE Capital, where he held roles including COO of the global reinsurance business, chief transformation officer, and leader of the global in-force life and health business.

Specialist Risk Group head of specialty

Specialist Risk Group has appointed Richard Gurney to the newly created role of head of specialty. He will be responsible for developing SRG's international specialty offerings and identifying new areas of investment.

Gurney spent 12.5 years at JLT in specialty positions and 10 years at Marsh in global roles, with experience spanning claims, global construction, and specialty placements.

His appointment follows the recent arrivals of Neil Nimmo as UK CEO and Sasa Brcerevic as chief commercial officer.

Carrick Group London SVP of operations

Bermuda-based legacy insurer Carrick Group has appointed Alex Smith as senior vice president of operations in London and Aidan Mills as vice president of M&A in Bermuda.

Smith joins from PoloWorks and has previously worked at Aviva, Amlin, Liberty Syndicates, Brit, Swiss Re, and Pen Underwriting, among others.

Mills was most recently assistant vice president at Chubb in Bermuda. He started his career at Deloitte in Sydney and previously worked at Allianz and AXA XL.
