Several UK insurance market players have announced senior appointments across underwriting, actuarial and portfolio leadership roles.

Arch Capital Group has named Ondine Bourrut Lacouture (pictured above, left) as the new active underwriter of Arch Syndicate 1955 at Lloyd’s. She takes over from Simon Williams, who held the role since Arch acquired the syndicate in 2019.

Meanwhile, Williams will continue in his position as chief strategy and distribution officer for Arch Insurance International, a role he has held since 2018.

Since the acquisition, Arch’s insurance and reinsurance divisions have increased the syndicate’s stamp capacity more than threefold. Syndicate 1955 now operates as a diversified platform for Arch and its associated third-party capital.

Earlier this month, Arch Insurance International also named Stephen Convery as senior construction underwriter, where he will be responsible for supporting the development of Arch’s global construction portfolio, which provides cover for large and complex risks.

ERS head of fleet and commercial motor

Meanwhile, specialist motor insurer ERS has promoted Chris Wilson (pictured above, right) to head of fleet and commercial motor. The role consolidates responsibility for both business lines under a single leader, following the appointment of Scott Tillbrook as active underwriter.

Wilson joined ERS in 2014 and led the development of its fleet underwriting function. In his expanded role, he now also oversees the commercial portfolio, which includes transportation, courier, specialist commercial vehicle, taxi, minibus, and coach & bus segments.

These classes cover up to five vehicles per policy – or up to ten in certain categories – and are accessed through ERS eTrade, a platform providing brokers with round-the-clock quote, mid-term adjustment, and renewal capabilities. Risks that fall outside standard parameters are reviewed by underwriters for tailored solutions.

In other recent appointments, ERS has confirmed the promotion of Annie Ward to head of bespoke personal lines and agriculture.

Broadstone actuarial director

In a separate move within the UK insurance market, Broadstone has appointed Rob Kerry as actuarial director within its insurance, regulatory and risk division. He joins the consultancy’s life insurance team, which provides actuarial and advisory services to industry stakeholders.

Kerry brings more than four decades of experience from prior roles at Equitable Life, Pearl Assurance and Aviva. Most recently, he served as chief actuary at Utmost Life and Pensions, where he contributed to the firm’s entry into the bulk purchase annuity (BPA) space.

His appointment follows Broadstone’s acquisition of ExactVAL, a BPA specialist, in June. The firm said Kerry’s addition will strengthen its capabilities in regulated roles and enhance support across with-profits, product development, and M&A advisory work.
