Lloyd’s Insurance Company (Lloyd’s Europe or LIC) will have a new set of leaders come 2024.

Amélie Breitburd, who was appointed as chief executive of the European subsidiary in April 2021, is leaving at the end of the year. She will be succeeded at the helm by current chief financial officer and chief operations officer Jonathan May.

Meanwhile LIC deputy CFO James Davidson will become finance chief and interim COO. He is joining both the LIC board and management committee as part of his promotion. May and Davidson, subject to approvals, will take on their respective roles in the New Year.

LIC general counsel Benoit Waltregny, in addition to his present remit, will serve as deputy CEO of Lloyd’s Europe. The new appointments come hot on the heels of Masumi Hashiguchi assuming the position of chief risk officer on November 30.

Commenting on the leadership succession, Lloyd’s chief of markets Patrick Tiernan said in a release: “Lloyd’s Europe has been a great success story during Amelie’s tenure. We could not have hoped for a more positive profile across all stakeholder groups as Lloyd’s Europe grew to be a valued member of the European insurance and reinsurance family.

“During her time as CEO, Amelie has both solidified the European platform and built trust and confidence with customers, brokers, and carriers.

“The future is very exciting for Lloyd’s Europe as Amelie hands over the leadership to Jonathan as CEO and Benoit as deputy CEO. I wish Amelie every success in her future career and thank her for her commitment to Lloyd’s.”

Lloyd’s Europe is based in Brussels.
