It’s been well publicised how businesses across the UK have taken a massive blow courtesy of the coronavirus pandemic – but amid all the focus on pubs, hospitality venues and gyms one area that has been overlooked by many is the UK’s film and TV production.

With the need for social distancing on set, not to mention the limits placed on certain film sets and on the number of crew that can be present, the industry has been reeling prompting the UK Government to try and kick-start the sector with a £500 million scheme. Now that push has been furthered by a brokerage giant.

Marsh Commercial will be helping to administer the effort – known as the Film and TV Production Restart Scheme – as it looks to plug the gap left by a lack of available insurance, and covers coronavirus-related losses for cast member and crew illnesses, as well as filming delays and disruptions caused by COVID-19.

“The UK’s film and TV industry is worth £12 billion to our economy and we look forward to bringing our skills and expertise to help jump start this much–loved sector,” said David Scutt, head of the Worcester Enterprise Centre of Excellence, Marsh Commercial. “By supporting this important Government scheme, we will empower production companies to get back on their feet while playing a vital role in aiding economic recovery following COVID-19.”

The brokerage group will now facilitate the application and onboarding process for production companies, while also managing the end-to-end claims process. To qualify, companies will need to meet certain criteria

“From award-winning dramas, to iconic comedies and revered documentaries, the UK makes the films and TV shows the world can’t wait to watch,” added Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, UK Government. “This support from the government means more clapperboards snapping into action in studios across Belfast, Glasgow, Cardiff, Watford and many more. Our screen industries are high growth, jobs creating and showcase the best of British creativity and innovation, and I’m pleased we can give them this jump-start to get the cameras rolling again on this £12 billion industry.”
