ERS, which is also known as IQUW Group’s Lloyd’s Syndicate 218, has appointed Tom Cummings as counter-fraud head at the specialist motor insurer.

In an emailed release, ERS cited Cummings’ more than a decade of insurance fraud experience. Reporting to ERS claims head Declan O’Mahony, the key hire will own the company’s counter-fraud strategy and be in charge of managing its suite of tools that are aimed at combatting policy and claims fraud.

Prior to his appointment, Cummings served as Hastings Direct’s process assurance lead for counter-fraud. His credentials also include a variety of fraud-related roles at Admiral Insurance.

Commenting on his new position, Cummings said: “I am excited to join ERS. Their commitment to investing in machine learning and other anti-fraud tools, to further automate their fraud detection capabilities, is hugely exciting.

“Working for a Lloyd’s syndicate with such a unique blend of product lines is an amazing opportunity, and I’m looking forward to sharing my expertise to help ERS grow further within the UK market.”

With more than 20 insurance products, ERS has been providing cover exclusively through UK brokers for over 75 years.

O’Mahony had this to say: “I am delighted to welcome Tom to the ERS team. Tom’s expertise is highly respected in the counter-fraud world, and his experience in assurance and innovation will complement the work we are doing to embed intelligent automation into our customer journey.

“We have a zero tolerance to fraud and have stringent defences in place to combat fraud, including an AI (artificial intelligence) fraud model and data enrichment provided by third-party partners Percayso and Dataiku.

“Tom’s leadership will enable us to face future fraud challenges, ensuring we continue to provide a robust defence for our brokers.”
