The UK government is calling on organisations to submit feedback on its draft Cyber Governance Code of Practice and to participate in a pilot project.

Part of the government’s £2.6 billion National Cyber Strategy, the initiatives are aimed at informing the development of the Code.

Call for views

The draft Code sets out key actions for directors and business leaders to take in line with efforts to boost companies’ cyber resilience.

“Cyberattacks are as damaging to organisations as financial and legal pitfalls, so it’s crucial that bosses and directors take a firm grip of their organisation’s cybersecurity regimes – protecting their customers, workforce, business operations, and our wider economy,” Viscount Camrose, Minister for artificial intelligence and intellectual property, said in a release

“This new Code will help them take the lead in safely navigating potential cyber threats, ensuring businesses across the country can take full advantage of the emerging technologies which are revolutionising how we work.”

The consultation is open until March 19.

Cyber governance project

Alongside the call for evidence is the government’s cyber governance project, which will be undertaken by cybersecurity consultancy Arculus Ltd.

“Senior leaders from organisations of all sizes and sectors can seek to participate in this research,” the government said. “Participants will be asked to implement the principles detailed in the Cyber Governance Code of Practice within their organisation and provide feedback on their experience.

“Participants can expect to complete a questionnaire to assess the cyber maturity of their organisation at the beginning and end of the project and attend several online sessions to discuss their feedback.”

It was noted that participation in the pilot project, which will also run until March, is completely confidential and voluntary.
