It has not been revealed who provides insurance for the Mangle E8 nightclub in London, but it will need some cover because now it is facing legal action from victims of an infamous acid attack in April.

This development came to light after Arthur Collins, ex-boyfriend of reality star Ferne McCann, was found guilty of five counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, plus nine counts of actual bodily harm. The incident in Dalston injured 22 people.

“The nightclub needs to take some responsibility for what happened when they allowed a bottle of acid into the premises,” said solicitor Ayesha Nayyar, as quoted by BBC Newsbeat. “Had the club done the right searches and checks, the bottle would’ve been picked out and Arthur Collins would’ve been stopped from taking it in.”

The establishment, which Nayyar described as “negligent,” said required security standards were followed and that arrangements were “more than adequate.”

“CCTV footage demonstrates this,” it told BBC Newsbeat in a statement. “Along with the entire industry, it is important that we continue to learn from experience and evolve our security accordingly.”

Lauren Trent, one of the victims not represented by Nayyar, claimed security at Mangle E8 was “quite lax” the night she was there to celebrate her birthday. The 22-year-old suffered neck burns.

“We were with a group of about six boys and two girls and none of them got checked – no bags checked, absolutely nothing,” she was quoted as saying.

Collins will face sentencing next month.
