It was in December 1986 when Nelson Hurst & Marsh alumnus David Harries made the switch from broking to underwriting via a QBE predecessor business. Now, after more than three decades, the financial lines head is leaving QBE Syndicate 386 where he spent the past seven years as active underwriter.

“Syndicate 386 has a long and successful history at Lloyd’s, and David has been instrumental in this success,” commented insurance managing director Sam Harrison. “I thank David for his important contributions to QBE over his long and distinguished career and wish him all the best in his retirement.”

Established in 1974, the syndicate is a UK non-marine liability insurer specialising in employers’ liability, professional indemnity, and public and product liability for UK and international clients.

Assuming the active underwriter role is UK insurance executive director Cécile Fresneau, who has around two decades of insurance industry experience and joined the group in 2018. The post at the syndicate, which will be in addition to her current remit, is subject to approval by Lloyd’s of London and the QBE Underwriting Limited board.

“Cécile’s extensive experience, including the past three years at QBE, means she is well-suited to lead the next phase of Syndicate 386’s development,” added Harrison.

Meanwhile Harries will be supporting the handover to Fresneau before his long-planned retirement.
