Insurance law firm RPC claims to have added “considerable bench strength” to its line-up with a swoop for professional indemnity specialist Scott Ashby.

Ashby joins as a partner for the firm in Bristol, having made the switch from Beale & Co where he worked with a variety of national and international firms. It is now hoped that he will strengthen RPC’s capacity to service insurers and insureds across a range of professions, especially given his background defending clients from bodies and regulators such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

“I have known Scott for a long time and his decision to join our leading insurance practice is a major coup for the firm,” said Bristol head of office Rhian Howell. “He will add considerable bench strength to the firm’s insurance offering at a time when we see high client demand.

“Scott is a very well-respected lawyer in the UK insurance market and shares RPC’s key values around collegiality, collaboration and client service which is why the team is excited to start working with him.”

In addition to his time at Beale & Co, Ashby was also previously with Reed Smith and has multi-million pound experience across the High Court, Commercial Court, Court of Appeal and the Technology and Construction Court.

All of these experiences make Simon Laird, RPC’s global head of insurance, confident that Ashby will be a “natural fit” at the firm. Ashby himself added that he was drawn to RPC for its reputation and “genuine commitment to collaboration, collegiality and the highest level of client service.”
