The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has accredited a new training programme to be run by Addresscloud, a specialist in geocoding and property intelligence.
The “Geographic Risk for Underwriters” course, recognised by the CII for continuing professional development, is aimed at educating the insurance industry on the latest advancements in address-mapping and peril-scoring technologies.
Addresscloud’s training is offered in collaboration with global flood risk management expert JBA Risk Management and subsidence-focussed firm Maplesky. The course features hands-on demonstrations, including a practical session led by an Ordnance Survey surveyor.
Participants also receive insights through educational talks covering topics such as flood and subsidence modelling, the process of address allocation, and the critical distinction between postcode-level and building-level risk.
The new CII-approved course culminates in a panel discussion exploring emerging developments, the influence of climate change, and the integration of artificial intelligence in the insurance sector.
Addresscloud founder and chief executive Mark Varley (pictured) stated: “We’re delighted to gain CII accreditation for this important programme – it demonstrates the value we place upon real-world education and enabling underwriters to harness smarter risk decisions based on data.”
Varley went on to point out that the course is designed to immerse insurers in the core of risk assessment – the address itself – by educating them on how addresses are determined and how to evaluate associated risks effectively.
Ogden Hodge from CII Accreditation Services also commented on the initiative, saying: “The CII recognises the need to adapt training to the rapidly evolving world of risk, to assist our members’ continuing professional development.
“We’re pleased to support companies like Addresscloud, who are finding new ways to engage underwriters and help them to make more informed and empathic risk decisions to better service clients and customers.”
