Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has welcomed Robotic Process Automation (RPA) with open arms – tapping global innovator NTT DATA UK for its robotics services.

What started out as an experiment by the specialist insurer’s IT unit has now paved the way for the first of several RPA initiatives at TMK. Aimed at aiding the automation of marine transactions, NTT DATA UK’s Cargo 10 Virtual Worker is poised to deliver improved operational efficiencies and data quality.

The promise? Faster transactions, fewer errors, plus the ability to process even beyond office hours.

“As RPA technology continues to advance, we are developing more innovative approaches to automation,” noted NTT DATA UK chief executive Simon Williams. “Insurers are focusing on reducing operating expenses, increasing broker responsiveness, and removing repetitive work so business teams can focus on higher value activities.

“RPA is a core component of any organisation’s digital approach.”

The IT services provider undertook the technology implementation through its robotics-as-a-service BluePrism platform.

“While originally an experiment initiated by the IT department, TMK is now embracing RPA technology,” explained TMK group head of IT Darren Sharp. “Following a clear demonstration of the impressive benefits, the business is actively identifying and prioritising further improvement opportunities, with a growing list of processes ripe for automation.”

Citing the advantages, Sharp described the “extremely cost-effective” cloud-based service as something which frees TMK from traditional infrastructure constraints and allows some of the services that IT delivers to scale up as rapidly as necessary.
