EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants has acquired the direct writing operation of Sentry Transportation, a division of one of the largest mutual insurance groups in the US.

The acquisition expands EPIC's transportation and logistics platform and brings the Sentry team into Interstate Motor Carriers, an EPIC company.

Sentry's direct writing operation serves more than 500 clients, including owner-operators and large trucking fleets, primarily through independent agencies. By joining Interstate Motor Carriers, the team gains access to EPIC's national carrier relationships, expanded offerings and broader geographic footprint.

Kristy Neal (pictured left), senior vice president of strategic development for EPIC National Transportation & Logistics, said the acquisition strengthens EPIC’s position in the transportation market, enhances service for mutual trucking clients, and brings additional talent and longstanding industry relationships to the firm.

Interstate Motor Carriers has provided insurance solutions for the trucking industry for over 80 years, offering tailored programs, flexible coverage, and risk management services designed specifically for motor carriers. The company has received Sentry’s Agency of the Year award multiple times, reflecting its long-standing partnership with the carrier.

Donna Ward (pictured right), senior vice president of northeast transportation and trucking operations at EPIC, said the Sentry team’s knowledge of the trucking industry and commitment to client service aligns with EPIC’s priorities. She added that the acquisition allows the combined team to deliver broader coverage solutions, enhanced services, and support for motor carriers of all sizes across the national platform.

The acquisition comes amid ongoing changes in the US trucking insurance market. Rising freight volumes, driver shortages, and evolving regulatory requirements have increased claims exposure and operational risk for carriers, driving demand for specialized insurance solutions.

Additionally, severe weather events, supply chain disruptions, and higher vehicle repair costs have contributed to increasing premiums and underwriting complexity.

By integrating Sentry’s direct writing operation, EPIC positions itself to address these market pressures, offering clients access to a wider range of carriers, enhanced risk management tools, and coverage tailored to the unique needs of both small operators and large fleets. Industry observers note that brokers with specialized platforms and national scale are increasingly able to capture market share by combining local expertise with broader resources.

Overall, the acquisition strengthens EPIC’s national transportation platform and reflects a broader trend of consolidation and specialization in the trucking insurance sector, where expertise, service, and operational scale are critical differentiators.
