AM Specialty Insurance Company (ASIC) has announced the appointment of Peter B. Smith as a non-executive director.

Smith has more than 30 years of industry experience, having held executive leadership positions in the US and internationally. His track record in building profitable growth in specialty markets and his proficiency in structuring reinsurance placements to support business initiatives will provide invaluable insights to ASIC's leadership team, the company said.

Previously, Smith served as the CEO of Risk Theory Insurance Services, a managing general agency platform that generated over $500 million of gross written premium. Prior to that, he served as President at Skyward Specialty (formerly Houston International Insurance Group), a specialty insurance carrier specializing in admitted and excess and surplus lines.

Smith has also served as CEO of the UK subsidiary of International General Insurance Company. During his tenure, Smith successfully developed and executed a business plan that resulted in significant growth across multiple specialty lines.

“We are delighted to have Peter join our board,” said Shevawn Barder, CEO of ASIC. “His vast experience, business acumen, and leadership capabilities make him an exceptional addition to our team. We look forward to leveraging his insights to guide ASIC's strategic initiatives and reinforce our commitment to being a reliable and agile partner for MGAs and brokers.”

Smith is the latest addition to ASIC’s roster. In January, the company announced three key hires: Dominick Tassone Jr. as chief underwriting officer, Anne Hoffmans as senior vice president of program underwriting, and Renee Montgomery as chief financial officer.
