Brit has announced the appointment of Mark Richards as senior vice president of general liability for Brit Global Specialty USA (BGSU). Richards will be based in Chicago and will report to Doug Trainor, executive vice president of casualty.

Richards has more than 30 years of underwriting experience across casualty classes. Prior to joining BGSU, he served as president of the primary casualty division at Navigators Group. He has also held positions at Argo Group’s Argonaut Specialty Division, Axis Insurance, CAN and Zurich.

“Mark brings extensive experience of successfully leading and growing casualty lines, and his nationwide network of relationships in the wholesale distribution market will play an important role in our continued expansion,” said Nick Davies, CEO of Brit Americas.

“Our US team continues to see a number of strong hires, and Mark’s appointment will further complement the significant progress being made in our casualty business under Doug Trainor’s leadership,” said Matthew Wilson, CEO of Brit. “This appointment is another example of the market-leading talent we are attracting to BGSU, which forms an important part of the ambitious growth strategy for our US platform.”

Richards’ hire follows the appointment of former Aspen underwriter Jonathan Liening as senior vice president of excess casualty and the buildout of BGSU’s professional lines offering with a number of other senior hires.
