Canopius snaps up AXA underwriter

Rebecca Marsden, who currently serves as political risk and credit underwriter at AXA Africa Specialty Risks, is making the switch to Canopius AG later this year.

Appointed as credit and political risk underwriter, Marsden is experienced not only in broking and underwriting but also in debt and equity capital markets sales and trading. She has worked at the likes of Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, and Renaissance Capital.

At Willis, where she held the role of divisional director for political and credit risks, Marsden advised investment banking clients seeking to utilize credit insurance as a risk mitigant.

“We’ve been investing heavily in underwriting capability recently to boost our firepower across the credit, political, and crisis division, and Rebecca will be a great boost to that development,” noted Bernie de Haldevang, head of specialty at Canopius. “She brings some impressive experience and great specialist knowledge of insurance and banking, with a particular understanding of the risks our clients face. I look forward to her joining the team.”

Canopius has underwriting operations in the UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, Bermuda, the US, and Singapore. The Lloyd’s of London insurer is now owned by a private equity consortium led by Centerbridge Partners.
