Pennsylvania-based Erie Insurance has named a new executive vice president of human resources and strategy.

The firm has promoted Wallace Oakley to the senior position, after joining the firm in 2011 as vice president, HR business partners. In her new role, the firm said Oakley will expand her oversight to include several strategic functions. Her appointment takes effect on January 01 next year.

Erie cited her efforts in delivering contemporary human resource practices at the firm, as well as leading its “Great Place to Work” program since 2012. She is also the sponsor of Erie’s “Workforce of the Future priority initiative.”

Before joining the firm, Oakley spent 22 years at State Farm where her responsibilities included commercial lines service, personal lines underwriting, auto claims, corporate public affairs, agent recruiting and human resources.

Ratings firm A.M. Best ranks Erie as the 10th largest homeowners’ insurer and 11th largest automobile insurer, based on direct premiums written. It’s also the 15th largest property/casualty insurer based on total lines net premium written. The insurer has more than five million policies in force and operates in 12 states and the District of Columbia.
