Grange Insurance Company has appointed Ryan Michel (pictured) as chief property and casualty officer.
Michel has more than 20 years of experience and most recently served as president and chief underwriting officer at Trusted Resource Underwriters. Prior to that, he spent over two decades at Allstate Insurance in various executive leadership roles, including President of Allstate Business Insurance, overseeing $1 billion in commercial premiums.
He also spent 11 years in Canada, serving as chief risk officer and later as president and chief executive of the Allstate Canada group of companies. During that time, Allstate Canada increased its premium by 50% to more than $2.4 billion and maintained consistent profitability across multiple distribution channels, including the independent agency channel.
“I am excited to have Ryan join our organization in the newly created role of Chief Property and Casualty Officer, said Grange Insurance president and chief executive officer John Ammendola. “With his proven track record of industry-leading profitability and his people-first leadership style, I am confident he will contribute greatly to our continued financial strength and stability.”
Michel’s appointment comes barely a month after the company promoted Mike Hickman to vice president, national underwriting and business operations, where he will supervise national underwriting and business operations. This follows the leadership moves the company made in the past year.
The move is the latest in a series of leadership changes for the firm which in November, expanded Nicole Carter’s role as vice president, PL sales and strategic distribution. Carter had been leading the insurer’s strategic distribution roadmap for the past two and a half years and having been with Grange Insurance Company since 2022, had been in charge of developing and executing the company’s strategic distribution roadmap. Meanwhile, Holly Benson and Phil Davis were appointed to the company’s board in February.
