HDI Global USA has appointed Jessica Cao to the position of vice-president, actuary.

Cao will be based in Chicago in her new role, reporting to HDI Global USA senior vice-president & chief financial officer Brad Diericx. She will be responsible for the company’s claims reserve function, ensuring that prices are aligned across all lines of business while utilizing critical analysis to improve underwriting profitability.

“As the actuarial department continues to support HDI’s growth initiatives, I am confident that Jessica brings the necessary experience and leadership qualities that will help us bring new products to our customers,” said Diericx.

Diericx was named president of HDI Global USA last month, with Jim Clark also having been appointed as president at the same time.

Cao joins HDI Global USA from AmWINS Specialty Casualty Solutions, where she helped determine pricing for workers’ compensation and liability treaties. She has also held leadership roles in companies such as StarStone, Zurich, CNA, and Liberty Mutual.

She has a bachelor of science degree in economics from Fudan University in Shanghai, China and a master of science in mineral economics from Pennsylvania State University. Cao was named a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society in 2006.
