Work promoting the adoption of technology by agencies played a significant role in the selection of two insurance veterans Florida Commissioner Kevin McCarty honored by Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies along with Doris Gonzalez.

Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty and QQ Solutions National Sales Manager Doris Gonzalez have been selected as the Insurance Man and Woman of the Year by the Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies.

“Both Commissioner McCarty and Ms. Gonzalez exemplify the professionalism, dedication and commitment to the insurance profession not only in Florida, but nationwide” said Jorge Peña, president of LAAIA, “they have made a meaningful impact to the retail insurance marketplace and to the ability of independent agents to better service consumers.”

LAAIA said McCarty was chosen due to his contributions over the past 12 years serving as Insurance Commissioner for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. Among the contributions cited by LAAIA are the introduction of technology to improve the regulatory process, implementing Personal Injury Protection (PIP) reform, recovering more than $110 million in the last two years for Florida policyholders as a result of life insurance claim settlements, and his support for reducing the number of insureds by the state-run property insurer Citizens Property Insurance Corporation.

The group said Gonzalez was selected for her expertise in showing independent agents how to embrace technology to grow their business. Gonzalez is director of national sales at QQ Solutions, a division of Vertafore, where she has been the top producer for the past 6 years. She has served as industry liaison to the LAAIA Board of Directors.

The Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies was founded in 1969 as The Voice of Independent Insurance Agents.
