Jim Ebers was a well-loved Nebraska insurance agent who had two passions: bettering education and the Nebraska Cornhuskers football program.
Now, nearly five years after Ebers’ death, his two passions are coming together as his vast collection of Huskers memorabilia is auctioned to raise money for the local school district.

Ebers’ Husker fandom was well-known in his community of Fremont, Neb., according to the Fremont Tribune.
“I remember going into his office over there by Miller Pharmacy, and the first thing you saw when you walked into his office was this huge Husker rug, and the walls were filled with Husker stuff; he probably couldn’t fit any more stuff on that wall,” Gary Bolton, board member for the Fremont Public School Foundation, told the Tribune. “Jim had gotten many awards as an insurance person, but you didn’t see any of those – you just saw all this Husker stuff.”
Ebers died of esophageal cancer in December of 2012, according to the Tribune. Shortly after his diagnosis, he decided that after his wife and three children had decided what they wanted to keep from his collection, the remainder would be auctioned off to raise money for the FPS Foundation.
More than 140 lots will be available for bidding during the live auction, according to the Tribune. Many items are already available for bidding on Proxibid.com.
