The head honchos of three major insurance companies based in Hartford, Connecticut announced that they will donate a combined $50 million to help the city out of a financial bind.

Mark Bertolini of Aetna, Christopher J. Swift of The Hartford, and Alan D. Schnitzer of Travelers said in a joint column in a local media outlet that they are “committed to making the city healthy again and are vested in its success.”

The three chief executives have pledged to donate a combined $10 million every year over the next five years to help the city make ends meet as it struggles to deal with a looming $45 million budget deficit over the next fiscal year.

“As we think about Hartford’s budget problems, this does help, but we also want to caution that with this great gift from these insurance companies did come a warning that this is not meant for us to find ourselves back in further trouble 10 years from now,” the publication quoted him as saying.
