Insurance carrier CNA inaugurated the construction of its new Loop office tower in Chicago earlier this month.

The new building will serve as the company’s new global headquarters and extend its 116-year stay in the city.

In March, CNA had sold its previous headquarters for $108 million to the John Buck Company, who is also responsible for developing CNA’s new HQ.

“This will be our eighth building in Chicago,” said John Buck, chairman of the John Buck Company. Buck was present for the groundbreaking ceremony Thursday along with Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
“Four years ago, there were 11 cranes in the city of Chicago. Now, there are 25 cranes up. It’s a vote of confidence in the future of the city,” Emanuel remarked.

According to an article by the Chicago Sun Times, CNA has plans to lease 275,000 of the new building’s 810,000 square feet.

The LEED-CS Gold Certified building was designed by John Ronan. The amenities of the building will include two restaurants, a fitness center, a 250-seat conference facility, three outdoor venues, bike parking, and so on.
