Three insurers have announced leadership changes across claims management, healthcare professional liability, and workers' compensation production. The appointments span the C-suite to mid-level production roles, as carriers in specialty and niche markets move to reinforce technical depth.
Arch Insurance North America has appointed Nora Deveau (pictured) as chief claims officer, effective August 1. Deveau succeeds Patrick Nails, who is retiring after 22 years with the company.
Deveau joined Arch in 2005 and held roles of increasing responsibility within the claims department. She most recently served as deputy chief claims officer from 2022 to 2026, with a focus on large and complex claims management.
Matt Shulman, CEO of Arch Insurance North America, said Deveau "has built a reputation for her acumen in handling large and complex claims while maintaining a clear focus on delivering for our customers."
Nails joined Arch in 2004 and was named general counsel in 2012. He moved to the claims department in 2018 and has served as chief claims officer since then. Shulman credited Nails with setting a high standard for the claims function and developing the talent pipeline that Deveau now leads.
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has made two promotions within its healthcare professional liability business, both effective immediately. Jarek Chmielowski takes the healthcare institutions portfolio manager role, while Greg Struhar moves to national underwriting manager for healthcare institutions and reports to Chmielowski.
Chmielowski will lead BHSI's healthcare institutions portfolio strategy and market expansion across the United States. His remit also covers underwriting performance for the segment.
Leo Carroll, head of US healthcare at BHSI, said the two promotions advance the firm's healthcare business. Carroll said Chmielowski brings strategic vision and market perspective to the portfolio role and that Struhar's experience positions him to lead underwriting execution nationally.
Struhar will oversee national underwriting execution for the segment alongside underwriting teams across the country. BHSI's US healthcare professional liability book covers hospitals, health systems, long-term care, managed care, physician groups, allied health providers, and life sciences organizations.
The MEMIC Group, the third-largest multi-state workers' compensation specialist in the US, has hired Sean Rutledge as a production underwriter on its Northeast team. Based in Massachusetts, Rutledge will cover small business accounts across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Rutledge brings four years of industry experience across claims and underwriting. He began his career at Travelers Insurance, where he spent a year in claims before moving into commercial lines underwriting for three years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Bridgewater State University and completed Travelers' Underwriting Professional Development Program.
E.K. Keller, express business segment leader at MEMIC, said Rutledge has built a reputation as a team-oriented professional and a trusted partner to agents. Rutledge said he connected with MEMIC's mission in workers' compensation and saw the role as an opportunity to grow within the segment.
