A busy week of appointments across the US insurance market spans wildfire-focused MGAs, independent agency networks, embedded auto insurance, agricultural risk, E&S underwriting, specialty insurance, and fast-growing MGA platforms.

Delos Insurance Solutions names CTO

California-based homeowners' MGA Delos Insurance Solutions has appointed Brian Schween (pictured, left) as chief technology officer. 

Schween brings C-suite technology experience from multiple insurance organizations and will focus on agent experience, scalable platforms, and core infrastructure to support growth.

Delos, which uses wildfire science and satellite imagery to provide homeowners' coverage in markets where traditional carriers have withdrawn, manages approximately $40 billion in total insured value across roughly 30,000 homes in California. The appointment is part of a broader initiative toward the company's goal of insuring one million homes. 

Smart Choice promotes Smith to VP of Internal Marketing

Independent agency network Smart Choice has promoted Mary Ann Smith (pictured, center) to vice president of internal marketing, expanding her remit to cover strategic communications, carrier and agency partner engagement, events, training materials, and cross-functional collaboration.

Smart Choice supported more than $2.5 billion in partner premium in 2025, recruited a record 1,500-plus agents and completed 36 agency acquisitions, marking its ninth consecutive year of agency growth.

Trucordia adds agriculture veteran as SVP

Trucordia has appointed Tom Legner (pictured, right) as senior vice president of its agriculture platform. 

Legner brings more than 25 years of experience spanning farming operations, commodity markets, and crop insurance, including more than a decade at Silveus Insurance Group and over 10 years at Cargill in producer-facing and leadership roles. 

Fortegra promotes Rattner to president

Specialty insurer Fortegra has appointed Mark Rattner as president.

Rattner, who previously served as executive vice president and chief underwriting officer for insurance, has been with Fortegra since 2016 and brings more than three decades of underwriting experience. Prior to Fortegra, he held senior roles at Houston International Insurance Group, where he established the professional liability division, and earlier served as chairman and chief executive of Professional Indemnity Agency, then a subsidiary of HCC Insurance Holdings.

The appointment comes shortly after a major ownership transition.

South Korea's DB Insurance completed its $1.65 billion acquisition of Fortegra on May 29, 2026, in what was the largest purchase of a US insurer by a Korean non-life carrier.

TrueCar hires Tesla and Marsh veteran to build insurance vertical

TrueCar has appointed Nik Huyeng as vice president of insurance and ancillary and Syl Raymond as senior director of OEM. 

Huyeng brings 13 years of experience across automotive, insurance and financial services. At Tesla, he built the company's European insurance operation, secured regulatory licensing across the EU and UK, and spearheaded the 2019 launch of Tesla Insurance in California. He previously held roles at Marsh across Hong Kong, Beijing, and Asia Pacific.

Meanwhile, Raymond spent nearly two decades at CDK Global, rising to vice president of global enterprise solutions, and most recently served as chief strategy officer at Better Car People.

Arch Insurance restructures wholesale E&S leadership

Arch Insurance North America has made a series of promotions to strengthen its wholesale platform.

Jason Conkin has been named division president for wholesale property and casualty, with Mike Ward promoted to executive vice president and head of E&S Casualty, and Joe Morrello to executive vice president and head of E&S Property.

Meanwhile, Jared Stacey has been named senior vice president and head of wholesale distribution.

The US E&S market surpassed $100 billion in direct premiums written for the first time in 2025, though growth moderated to 7.8%, with casualty lines remaining firm while commercial property pricing softened. Separately, division president for property Valerie Turpin has announced her retirement, effective July 1, after nearly eight years with the firm.

USAA appoints Pinkes to board of directors

USAA has appointed Andrew J. Pinkes to its board of directors, effective May 29, 2026.

Pinkes brings more than three decades of P&C insurance leadership, including executive vice president roles at CNA Insurance, XL Group, and The Hartford, and served as interim CEO of CLARA Analytics. He has been a USAA member for more than 30 years.

Bishop Street Underwriters names CFO

MGA platform Bishop Street Underwriters has appointed Karman Chan as chief financial officer. 

Chan spent 11 years as CFO of Galway Holdings, steering the business through more than 25 acquisitions and a 17-fold increase in revenue.

Bishop Street surpassed $650 million in gross written premium in 2025 while maintaining a sub-50% portfolio loss ratio, and secured a $125 million strategic investment from White Mountains Insurance Group in February 2026.
