Jackson Sumner & Associates (JSA) has acquired Virginia-based Landers Underwriting. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Landers Underwriting, founded in 1988, is an MGA that writes excess and surplus lines in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Harry Landers, founder and principal of Landers Underwriting, announced his retirement in conjunction with the acquisition.

“Harry built a wonderful company in the E&S space that felt familiar to JSA in so many ways, with like values and a similar approach to business,” said Danielle Wade, president and CEO of JSA. “We are grateful for the opportunity to bring enhanced service, tools, markets and expertise to all the agents we now serve by way of this acquisition.”

JSA has hired Landers principal and underwriter Noah McMurray to remain at Landers’ Charlottesville, Va., location and continue to manage the commercial accounts in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. McMurray will report to Kristel McNeil, P&C manager for JSA.

“We are excited to have Noah join JSA to ensure agents experience continuity through the transition,” said Tony Costa, JSA chief underwriting officer. “His underwriting experience and genuine care for the agents he serves is a welcome addition to our P&C underwriting team.”
