Markel Global Insurance this week announced the availability of new professional liability products for captive insurance agents and securities broker-dealers, to be sold by select Markel-appointed producers.

The captive agent product provides coverage for the professional liability exposures of company-sponsored life and property/casualty insurance agents, including coverage for claims arising from wrongful acts against the agent for the rendering of or failure to render professional services.

The securities broker-dealer product, meanwhile, addresses claims arising from alleged wrongful acts and wrongful supervisory acts of the securities broker-dealer who renders or fails to render professional services. The product is meant to complement broker-dealer operations of company-sponsored life and property/casualty customers.

“These products are in line with our focus to expand our capabilities to our producers and provide coverage for niche markets,” said Jim Gray, executive vice president and chief underwriting officer with Markel’s professional liability division. “The distribution of these products will be highly selective with our key existing producers.”

To support the launch of the new agent/broker products, Markel has appointed Frank Frieri as senior vice president and Michael Driscoll as vice president of its professional liability team. Together, Frieri and Driscoll have more than 45 years of industry experience, and have worked with top players like Arch, Zurich, CNA and AIG.

Driscoll will report to Frieri, while Frieri will report to Dan Gamble, executive vice president of Markel Global Insurance, Professional Liability. They will be based out of Markel’s New York City office.

“Frank and Michael bring more than 45 years of successful underwriting experience in these lines,” Gamble said in a statement. “With their breadth of knowledge and expertise, we look forward to offering this new opportunity to our producers and expanding our distribution platform in Markel’s Global Insurance division.
