The North Dakota Insurance Department announced late last week that it has recovered and/or saved $3.4 million for state consumers in 2015 through its intervention.

The figure consists of money recovered on behalf of consumers through the Insurance Department’s hotline, through complaints filed by disgruntled customers, and through investigations performed by the Department. It also includes benefits received through the Department’s Prescription Connection and State Health Insurance Counseling programs.

“My team and I are committed to protecting North Dakota’s consumers,” remarked State Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm. “Almost three and a half million dollars represents a substantial recovery and savings for the people of our state.”

The report also listed statistics on fraud and consumer contacts. The Department received 189 fraud referrals, which translates to $1,045,515.10 in actual losses. The Department’s hotline took in 15,943 phone calls, helped 257 walk-in clients and processed 150 formal complaints. In addition, the agency handled a total of 8,885 Prescription Connection and State Health Insurance Counseling contacts.
