Stacy resigned as state senator after accepting the position with the Trump administration, according to the Shelbyville Times-Gazette. A Republican, Tracy has served in the state senate since 2004.

“Today is an emotional day for me,” Tracy told the paper Monday. Tracy said that the USDA job was “an opportunity to continue my public service.”

“This is a great loss for the senate but a big win for Tennessee agriculture,” Tennessee Lt. Gov. Randy McNally said in a statement.
