The storm that destroyed 150 homes and left 40,000 without electricity over the weekend had more than 1,000 policyholders filing for property damage claims for their cars and homes in the San Antonio area, according to figures from the USAA.  State Farm also reported several hundred claims from their end.

Several insurance companies expect more claims to come in as residents undertake repairs.

“Document, document, document. Just take the smallest detailed pictures. You can’t get too detailed in a scenario,” USAA spokesperson Rich Johnson told medial outlet news4sa.com.

He added that policyholders must make an inventory list and keep receipts as they undertake temporary repairs.

For many residents it is the second time they have had to file for claims for roof repairs in less than a year. Last April, another severe storm hit the area causing damage to homes.
