McLarens Aviation is setting a new flight path in technical leadership with the appointment of John Bayley as its first global technical director.

Alongside his responsibilities as regional director for Europe, Bayley, who is based in London, will lead efforts to enhance collaboration and innovation across the company’s global network, based in London.

The global technical director role has been introduced to foster technical consistency and facilitate knowledge-sharing across McLarens Aviation’s international operations.

Bayley will spearhead initiatives to strengthen expertise in traditional, contemporary, and emerging technologies while ensuring a unified approach to service delivery. He will also work closely with lead markets and market associations to support the company’s growth.

Managing director Trehane Oliver said the new role is an opportunity to refine the company's technical capabilities.

"[Bayley's] leadership and technical vision will enhance how we deliver value to our clients and drive innovation. This is part of our broader strategy to adapt and excel in a dynamic and fast-growing market. It’s an ongoing process, and there will be more to follow in the coming months,” said Oliver.

Bayley joined McLarens Aviation in 1998 after a 15-year career in the aviation sector, which included roles with operators in the UK and overseas, as well as with a major aerospace manufacturer. He has since combined his engineering expertise with claims management to handle complex cases in the aerospace industry.

Bayley identified key trends shaping the aviation insurance sector, including the increasing use of composite materials, the growth of electric aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and advanced air mobility technologies.

“The aviation insurance sector must keep pace with developing aerospace technology while supporting the existing industry. With a phenomenal team of engineers and adjusters covering the smallest to largest and most basic to highly complex losses, we want to make the best use of our existing knowledge base while continuing to recruit quality individuals to enhance it," said Bayley.

Further organizational changes to support growth

Over the past year, McLarens Aviation has implemented several organizational changes aligned with its growth strategy.

In the UK, Gary Clift and Andrew Southall assumed the roles of London claims manager and deputy London claims manager, respectively, supporting the survey team’s expansion. Internationally, Tan Soon Keat was promoted to regional director for Asia, and Philip Galbraith became general manager in Singapore.
