Higginbotham, one of the largest independent insurance and financial services firms in the nation, has announced the acquisition of Haik Insurance, an independent broker based in Lafayette, La.

Founded in 2014, Haik Insurance offers commercial property and casualty insurance, surety bonds and personal insurance. The deal establishes Higginbotham’s third office in Louisiana in 2021; the firm also has offices in Baton Rouge and Bossier City.

“We’re a people-focused company that values our employees, clients and communities,” said Rusty Reid, chairman and CEO of Higginbotham. “When we enter into a partnership, we look for professionals with the same values, and the people at Haik Insurance fit right in. this is a long-term commitment to stimulate mutual growth, not a decision entered quickly.”

“I was introduced to Higginbotham through a longtime friend and industry peer who also merged his agency with the firm,” said Christopher Haik, president of Haik Insurance. “What drew me to Higginbotham was the culture that its leadership team has built on the foundation of employee ownership and how that motivates positive employee and customer experiences.”

Haik has been named a managing director of Higginbotham and will continue leading Haik Insurance with its existing roster of a dozen employees. Haik began his career at the Louisiana Department of Insurance, and currently serves as a board member for the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Louisiana and as a committee member for the Louisiana Property & Casualty Insurance Commission.
