Sacramento-based Inszone has merged with Charles James Cayias Insurance Inc., a family-owned agency in Salt Lake City, in a deal that deepens the company's existing operations in Utah.
Charles James Cayias Insurance was founded on June 13, 1997, by Charles "Charley" James Cayias and his wife, Cyndia Cayias. Charley Cayias, a licensed agent since 1977, is a third-generation insurance professional who later brought their son, Dimitri, into the business.
The agency specializes in niche commercial lines, including pilot car coverage and hospitality accounts such as bars, restaurants and taverns, and is the top writer of pilot car insurance in the Salt Lake City area.
Cayias said the decision to partner with Inszone came after being approached by multiple potential buyers. He said Inszone stood out for its commitment to preserving the agency's identity and culture.
"I've run this agency for decades, and while I wanted to scale back on the administrative side, I wasn't ready to stop working with my clients," he said, describing the transition process as fast and professional.
He added that Inszone was "the only partner that shared our beliefs and offered a way for us to focus on our relationships while they handle the back-office operations."
Cayias will remain with the company following the merger, stepping back from administrative duties to focus on client-facing work.
The deal is the latest in a sustained acquisition campaign by Inszone, which has completed more than 120 deals across the United States, according to company disclosures.
Tracxn data shows 2024 was its most active year, with 36 acquisitions. PitchBook records indicate the firm has raised $466 million to date, and Inszone has said most of its transactions are structured as cash deals with the potential for an equity component and earnouts.
Inszone first entered Utah in November 2024 when it acquired L.A. Bowen Insurance, a long-established agency in Orem. It also operates an office in Provo, making the Charles James Cayias Insurance merger a bolt-on to an existing footprint rather than a new market entry.
Earlier this month, Inszone acquired Jaffery Insurance & Financial Services in Omaha, marking its first move into Nebraska. Founded in 2019 by Cyrus Jaffery, the agency built its book through referral relationships with realtors and mortgage professionals. Inszone now serves clients through offices in 22 states.
Chris Walters, Inszone's chief executive, said the Cayias family's niche market expertise strengthens the company's portfolio.
"We are honored that Charley, Cyndia and Dimitri have chosen Inszone to carry their name forward," he said, adding that the goal is to give the family the resources to continue serving their Utah clients.
