World Insurance Associates has acquired American Insurance Agency of Hingham, Massachusetts, effective June 1, 2026, establishing the firm's first presence in the greater Boston area.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Founded in 1991, American Insurance serves a range of commercial clients across construction, manufacturing, hospitality, restaurants, real estate, auto services, energy, entertainment and amusement, special events, and skating and sports facilities.
James J. Farren, owner of American Insurance Agency, said the move would let the firm expand what it offers existing clients.
"We are experienced insurance professionals, and work with people every day to find the best insurance programs for their business needs. We are glad to be joining World and look forward to expanding the products and services we offer to our clients," Farren said.
Rich Eknoian, World's executive chairman and founder, framed the deal around geographic expansion.
"This acquisition builds World's presence in the greater Boston area. I know American Insurance's business will continue to grow as part of World," Eknoian said.
American Insurance's client mix is more specifically differentiated than the typical general commercial lines agency World acquires in its home state of New Jersey.
The agency's nine named specialty sectors, particularly entertainment and amusement, skating and sports facilities, and special events, represent genuinely niche commercial lines expertise that can be harder to source through a generalist broker.
Those niches carry distinct underwriting considerations around liability, liquor exposure and event cancellation risk that require carrier relationships and underwriting knowledge specific to the class.
The Hingham acquisition marks World's first foothold in the greater Boston insurance market, which is one of the more competitive independent agency markets in the Northeast given the density of regional carriers and established local brokerages.
Insurance Business has previously reported on World's acquisition streak in its home state of New Jersey, alongside deals in Texas, Arizona and Connecticut, and the Massachusetts entry extends that national expansion pattern into New England for the first time.
According to Tracxn's tracking of World's acquisition history, the company has completed well over 100 acquisitions since its 2011 founding, with its consistent use of the same legal counsel, Giordano, Halleran & Ciesla, reflecting a well-established, repeatable process.
For independent agency owners in Massachusetts and the broader New England market, the American Insurance deal signals World is now actively pursuing targets in the region rather than remaining focused on its mid-Atlantic and Sunbelt footprint.
Owners of similarly sized, commercially focused agencies in the greater Boston area now have a concrete, recent example of how World structures these acquisitions, preserving the seller's local leadership and brand while adding access to World's national carrier relationships and specialty resources.
