Markel Corporation has named John Lecci as senior director of professional liability, where he will lead the company’s US professional errors & omissions (E&O) team in New York.

Lecci most recently worked with Axis, where he was in charge of underwriting management liability and employment practice liability for law firms and other professional organizations. His 23-year career has been primarily focused in the area of E&O coverage for lawyers and accountants. A release noted that he is a lawyer by training.

In his new role, Lecci will report to Markel Corporation managing director of professional liability Drew Dinsmore. Lecci’s appointment was effective July 22, 2019.

“We are excited to have John joining our team. Markel’s professional liability franchise is strong, and we see nothing but upside and growth in the E&O arena,” commented Dinsmore.

Dinsmore added that he believes Lecci will be instrumental to Markel’s “relationship-based” growth strategy in the US.

In its latest results report, Markel Corporation said that for the first half of 2019, it managed to hit operating revenues of $4.9 billion – up from $3.6 billion the year before. The holding company attributed its strong operating results to the work of its ventures arm, Markel Ventures, as well as premium growth in its underwriting operations.
