QBE North America has hired Risa Ryan to serve as senior vice-president of analytics for the regional unit.

Ryan, who will be based in QBE’s New York office, will lead the development and delivery of analytic services for the company. She will be responsible for enhancing QBE’s analytics strategy for North America and will help put together a team to drive the utilization of advanced modeling and analysis methods to support the company’s business objectives, a release detailed.

According to John Beckman, QBE North America chief underwriting officer, Ryan has more than 20 years of leadership, data, and analytics experience.

“Nurturing a robust analytics ecosystem is critical to how we build for the future, respond to emerging market trends and help our customers manage risk from end to end with integrated solutions,” Beckman continued. “Among the many avenues we are exploring, we see great potential in mining internal and external data and applying machine learning, and we’re excited to have Risa help power our efforts.”

Ryan joins from Munich Re America, where she held various roles of increasing responsibility – most recently as head of strategy and analysis. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Ryan holds a Master of Science in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Temple University and a Certificate of Business Analytics from Cornell University.

Last month, QBE North America appointed a new president for its alternative markets business – Kris Hill. Hill previously served as chief financial officer for QBE prior to the promotion; she will remain a member of the QBE North America executive committee despite the change in her role.
